Curling!

This Saturday morning, Greta, Mickey and I (no babies!) went to see our friend Paul's curling match. He has been doing this for a few years, and is super good at it now : )

He mentioned that maybe after the games, the kids might be able to come out onto the ice with Paul and Jeff for a few minutes, and if they were so inclined, throw a few stones or try their hand at sweeping. A few minutes turned into almost an hour and a half! They really, really took to it and enjoyed themselves immensely. They were using both the junior stones (10 pounds) and the regular ones (42 lbs!). They were pretty good at pushing off, and releasing the stones with the slight rotation needed to curve down the ice and do what it is suppossed to do. I am purposely avoiding attempts at using the correct terms for the pieces and procedures but the kids knew the House and the Hack and all I had to do was take pictures! I took many more but sadly, so many came out blurry. Its a good camera for stills, really good actually, but if theres movement, it doesnt do so well.

They both want to do kids' curling (today! tomorrow? When Mama?!) but the leagues usually start a bit older, maybe 12 years old or so. Maybe we can change that...

I hope we will get to do this again, but do not know if secret hour and a half for free will ever happen again. The curling club is very popular now, and ice time usually costs money.

THANK YOU PAUL for the free lessons and fun time!
